Another year begins to close! They're going far to fast!
We are now using Uptime to monitor the availability of our server (ignore the out of date info at the Uptime site, it's still running). Should it go down then we get sent an email. Don't worry, we use another server for email!
We are receiving information for conferences and exhibitions throughout the whole of 2004. So, may be 2004 is going to be the year of recovery. See our What's On page.

As a result of the impending legislation in England and Wales to enact the EU Directive on Privacy and Electronic Communications, we have updated our Privacy statement. Please take a moment to familiarise yourself with its contents.
The key change is, that if you communicate with us then we can only respond to your communications if either a) you have given your prior consent to receive a communication from us, or b) a relationship exists between yourself and Managing Change. Therefore, if you email us then we presume that you wish us to respond to your communication and/or, without obligation to either party, you wish to form a customer relationship with us. This will enable us to respond electronically and by telephony to your communication to us.

Due to the high number of spam emails we have introduced stringent email filtering. As this is a business to business web site, emails from free ISPs, such as msn, aol, excite, and hotmail, will be refused. We are also unable to queries from students due to the volumes we are receiving. If you have a genuine business enquiry and are using one of these free email accounts then please telephone to be added to our "exceptions list". Thank you for your co-operation.
As an anti-spam measure we have edited all the email addresses on this web-site, changing @ to -at-. Please re-edit before sending. In the absence of an @ symbol, some email software will suffix the email address with your own domain name. Please remove this as well.
We are well into another year. Managing Change continues to help with the Government's modernisation agenda. Both local authorities and the National Health Service are together investing probably over £4bn this year in IT. Much will be invested in new infrastructure: desktop PCs plus wide area networks and local area networks will bring IT services to most staff. New applications will link agencies together for joined up working and enable a dramatic improvement in service times. New systems under development will provide a citizen centric view. But much remains to be done. Management structures need to be overhauled and cultural change needs to bring more dynamic and responsive organisations. IT spend needs to align to national clinical and service priorities. There's going to be a seismic shift for IT health suppliers, many of whom will cease to exist or be reduced to sub-contractor status.
We are helping Smart Moves with information management and call centre implementation. Smart Moves provides sustainable transport consultancy and operates Car Club services [automobile/vehicle clubs]. Car Clubs provide shared use of a car for a group of people in a neighbourhood. Smart Moves provides the car, a local office and project manager to run the operation, and a central booking service. Local councils and property developers usually support local car clubs for the start-up period.
Bookings are via the internet or a call centre and can be for as little as 30 minutes or as long as a 2 days. Cars are fitted with mobile data terminals and smart card readers that only unlock the car for authorised users with a booking for the next time slot. The data terminals record the user, the time and distance travelled and relay this information back to the operations centre where it is used for billing the user. Users can use the data terminals to extend their bookings in real time.
Car Clubs are very popular in Europe and are even gaining acceptance in the USA! For example, Berlin has thousands of members and hundreds of cars. In Switzerland, car clubs are integrated with the train system. Members can book a train ticket and car hire that are located in reserved bays outside the stations.
On the continent, studies have showed that each car club car replaces 5 owned cars. Users typically use a car club car for 25% of their travel needs, with walking, cycling, buses and trains making up the other 75%. The benefits are less congestion, less noise and air pollution, fewer accidents and improved environmental landscape. Car clubs are particularly suited for high density urban living areas, especially in historic towns where old commercial buildings are converted into housing but cannot provide the typical 2 car parking spaces.
