Strategic Internet Marketing ****Strategic Internet Marketing book cover
- Proven Strategies for Sucessfully Marketing Your Products and Services

Tom Vassos, 1996, Que Corp. (book reference), Indianapolis

ISBN 0-7897-0827-2

This is a practical book for managers who are considering - or developing - Internet systems. Tom, who is the Internet Strategies Manager for IBM, sets out an 17 stage framework for developing Internet systems. Most of these 17 stages represent varying degrees of technological sophistication, from the simple Repository stage of brochureware, through to electronic commerce with its DigiCash and CyberCash. Stage 1, though, highlights the important need for research in order to identify your target audience and their needs and to clarify your objectives.

The book contains numerous examples with screen shots and URL references. You need not type these in yourself, because Tom has created Web Diamonds, an Internet site that lists all the examples in the book, chapter by chapter. Another interactive feature is the prompts that occur at various points in the book, Here the reader is invited to send an e-mail to the author, and by return to receive an e-mail with the latest thoughts, ideas and examples about the chapters you have just read.

The book also contains The Internet Bullseye Marketing Modelsm. Use this to help identify your likelihood of success and to prioritise your development. Note that you may have to adjust some of the criteria as the Internet develops and the user mix changes.

This is a well presented book, full of ideas and practical suggestions. As well as reading the book you are recommended to see Tom Vassos in person at one of the many presentations he makes throughout the world.
